Direct Answer

Yes. When you have little work experience, projects show real skills. For each one, say what the project was, what you did, who you worked with, and what the result was. Keep it to two or three lines.

How to describe a project

  • Name and context: for example Group Marketing Plan, university module.
  • Your part: what you did yourself, not only what the team did.
  • The result: a number, a mark, a presentation, or feedback.
  • Skills used: tools such as Excel, Python, or Canva, if they match the job.

A sample bullet point

Worked in a team of five to research and build a marketing plan for a local cafe, then presented it to the owner, who adopted two recommendations.

Example project bullet point

When to leave a project out

Leave out projects that are unfinished, unrelated to the job, or that you cannot explain in an interview. Two strong projects are better than five weak ones.

Which projects to choose

  • Projects that match the job, such as a marketing plan for a marketing role or a coding project for a developer role.
  • Projects with a clear result: a mark, a presentation, a user count, or feedback.
  • Group projects where you can name your own part.
  • Recent projects first. Drop old ones when you have newer ones.

Where to put them

If you have little work experience, give projects their own Projects section straight after education. If you have strong work experience, keep projects short and put them lower down, or inside the Education entry as relevant modules.

Examples by field

Built a Python web app that tracks monthly expenses, used by 40 classmates during the final semester.

Computer science

Surveyed 120 students about reusable cups and presented the results and recommendations to a class of 80.

Business or marketing

Designed and ran a four-week experiment on plant growth and wrote up the results in a 2,000-word report.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing the project title only, with no detail on what you did.
  • Claiming the work of the whole team as your own.
  • Including projects you cannot talk about in an interview.
  • Listing more than three or four projects on a one-page CV.
